Welcome to the Hands-On Heritage NI project, this project will provide a programme that combines traditional heritage engagement and outreach with the introduction of a range of new digital engagement technologies, to better connect people and communities with built heritage.
We are in the first year of development of the project working on resources to help deliver our outreach and engagement programme in 2021-2022. See below for a taste of what’s to come:
After consulting with the public in Summer 2020 the themes of the Heritage How To? Guides that we will be producing guidance on are outlined below. These titles are currently in development, coming Spring 2021:

- Traditional Building Skills;
- Heritage at Risk;
- Recording Historic Buildings;
- Researching Historic Buildings;
- Vernacular and Rural Heritage;
- Climate change; Reuse and Retrofit;
- Heritage for Local Authorities.

UAH are currently working with ESRI Ireland to develop an App where you will be able to report on heritage you are concerned about, or record the heritage you value, and where you will be able to upload photographs and oral histories. Coming Spring 2021. We will be calling for Heritage Hunters to help test this resource! Sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date.
We are developing an ‘In Your Area’ webpage which will allow you to view your local heritage and what people have been recording in your area. Coming Spring 2021.
We will be holding workshops, events and competitions throughout the programme. Keep up to date by checking the Events section and signing up to our newsletter below.
The preliminary public survey has now closed, however, in the near future we will be engaging with the public. To keep up to date sign up to our Newsletter below.
